Meet the Food & Water Europe staff

Wenonah Hauter — Executive Director

Wenonah Hauter is the Executive Director of Food & Water Watch and Food & Water Europe.She has worked extensively on food, water, energy and environmental issues at the global, national, state and local level. Her book Foodopoly: The Battle Over the Future of Food and Farming in America examines the corporate consolidation and control over our food system and what it means for farmers and consumers.

Experienced in developing policy positions and legislative strategies, she is also a skilled and accomplished organiser, having lobbied and developed grassroots field strategy and action plans. From 1997 to 2005, she served as Director of Public Citizen’s Energy and Environment Program, which focused on water, food and energy policy. From 1996 to 1997, she was environmental policy director for Citizen Action, where she worked with the organisation’s 30 state-based groups. From 1989 to 1995 she was at the Union of Concerned Scientists where, as a senior organiser, she co-ordinated broad-based, grassroots sustainable energy campaigns in several states.

She has an M.S. in Applied Anthropology from the University of Maryland.

Andy Gheorghiu is a campaigner and policy advisor for Food & Water Europe. He coordinates with organizations, grassroots groups and individuals in the EU to support Food & Water Europe campaigns, in particular on the campaign for a global ban on fracking and keeping fossil fuels in the ground. A former public servant, he works now as a full-time freelance campaigner, consultant and activist for climate/environmental protection, energy policy and democracy. foodandwatereuropefridaFrida Kieninger — Food & Water Europe Campaign Officer

Frida Kieninger is a Brussels-based Food & Water Europe campaign officer promoting a ban on fracking in Europe. Working with local European groups and US-based researchers, she raises awareness of the countless risks of hydraulic fracturing. After completing her master’s thesis on intensive agriculture in southern Spain, Frida became involved with issues concerning the European food system as well as the transition to a sustainable energy system, community energy and questions of climate justice. Food & Water Europe David Sanchez David Sánchez — Campaign Officer

David Sánchez is Food & Water Europe’s campaign officer, based in Brussels. He works together with local grassroots movements for safe, accessible, sustainable public water in the EU and looks at sustainable food and trade. He studied Environmental Sciences at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in Spain and holds a Master in Ecology. He has been involved in the Spanish and European food sovereignty movements, campaigning on GMOs, agrofuels, factory farming and promoting local food networks. Royelen Lee Boykie — Special Advisor to the Executive Director on Social Engagement

Royelen Lee Boykie is Food & Water Watch’s Special Advisor to the Executive Director on Social Engagement. She is tasked with creating and administering a strategic digital program for Food & Water Europe. In addition, she designs and implements trans-channel programming for Executive Director Wenonah Hauter’s book tours. Prior to this position, Royelen was the Director of Digital Strategy. Royelen’s new-media career was launched at AOL where she was educated on how Web audiences democratically control content with their clicking patterns. Her online education continued as she served over 300 issue-related organisations at a software provider of advocacy tools. Royelen spends time in all the usual online places (YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, foodandwaterwatch.org, foodopoly.org, Instagram) and hopes to see you there.
